According to Director Sales and Marketing Lalin De Mel, the hotel would be closed for refurbishment from May to August next year. "We want the property to be ready for the next season," he said.

When the refurbishment is completed the hotel would be classified as an international four star. "This would be the only hotel with this category in Negombo."

The refurbishment plan includes a complete facelift to the Restaurant, Bar, Entrance porch and the Lobby areas. " Our plans also include a second pool - infinity edge pool."

Sri Lanka's best-known Architect Geoffrey Bawa originally designed the hotel and the new development will capture the essence and flavour of the architecture of the late Bawa.

Of the 92 rooms 48 bedrooms in the South end block will be upgraded in size, facilities and decor. The rooms will have tea/coffee making facilities, cable T.V and D.V.D player. All the toilets will be enlarged.

A theme restaurant, will mainly serve Indian and Chinese cuisine. This would be ideal for an outdoor dining experience. The existing bar will be relocated to the ground floor adjacent to the restaurant and will have an "open bar" concept."

New additions at the hotel will also have a new Games room. "The business professional would also have a Cyber cafe and Business centre to keep abreast with the latest happenings in the business world while on leisure."

The company earned honour when World Travel awards 2003, selected Saman Villas in Aluthgama and Ayurvedha Pavilion Negombo as the best twenty hotels in the world.

The award had been made for 2003, by the 'Travel weekly' published in London on November 13, 2003.

The Saman Villas, an upmarket hotel has been selected from among 20 hotels in the world as the 'world's very best resorts' while the Jetwing Ayurvedha pavilion was voted as the one of the 20 'world's very best resorts' in the world.

"Sri Lanka and Jetwing should be proud of this achievement since these two properties have been categorised among the very best in the world such as the Hiltons Sherotons, Fourseasons, Marriots, Meridians Aman Resorts and Sandals Resorts," he said.

Jetwing Hotels also own and manage 13 other properties, Lighthouse Hotel and Spa - Galle, Saman Villas - Bentota, Ayurveda Pavilions - Negombo, The Blue Water - Wadduwa, Tropical Villa - Beruwela, Mermaid Hotel and Club - Kalutara, Hunas Falls Hotel - Kandy, St.Andrew's - Nuwara Eliya, Yala Safari Game Lodge - Yala, Wetland Lodge and Spa (Opening 2005), Blue Oceanic Beach Hotel, Seashells Hotel and Sea Garden Hotel - Negombo.
