Top riders to compete in Bank of Ceylon Tour by Bernard Perera The Bank of Ceylon Tour organised by 'Lakhanda' Radio and sponsored by Bank of Ceylon will take place on Nov. 15 and 16. The event is to be conducted by Interim Committee for cycling in Sri Lanka with assistance from Sri Lanka cycling judges Association. The event will be conducted for racing cyclists who are registered with cycling Federation of Sri Lanka. The riders will cover a distance of 290 kilometers in two stages. The first stage will commence opposite Bank of Ceylon Head office. The riders who face starter on this day will proceed to Bambalapitiya and reach Borella through Bullers Road and then ride past Baseline Road to reach Kandy Road via New Kelaniya Bridge. They are expected pass through Nitttambuwa, Warakapola, Kegalle, Mawanwella, Kadugannawa and reach Kandy to finish the day one covering a distance of 128.5 kilometers. On 16th Sunday the riders are to leave Kandy on the second stage via Katugastota, Gagedera, Mawathagama, Kurunegala, Narammala, Giriulla, Pannala, Dankotuwa, Negombo, Wattala, Peliyagoda, Hettiyawatte and finish at Galle Face around 5.00 p.m. The winner of the race is to receive Rs. 50,000 while the two runners up will be awarded with Rs. 30,000 and 20,000 respectively. Riders who finish upto 15 are also rewarded with cash awards. There will also be cash awards for teams and special awards for Best Hill Climber, Sprint Champion and stage winners. |
