12 teams for veterans over 35 rugby tourney

Twelve teams will vie for honours in the WPRFU inaugural veterans over 35 ten-a-side touch rugby tournament which will be worked off at CR and FC grounds, Longden Place on November 16 (Sunday). The winners will receive the Scanwell Freight Forwarders Trophy.

The twelve teams have been divided into four groups. Navy, Police and Old Peterites have been drawn into Group 'A' while Havelocks, Army and Puffins are in Group 'B'. CR & FC, Jawatte Lions and Old Isipatanians are in Group 'C' while Air Force, Petersons and Old Zahirians have been drawn into Group 'D'.

This tournament will give an opportunity for former ruggerites to play competitive rugby. Former leading referees of the calibre of Daya Jayasundera, Tony Amith, M.R. Moosa, Vipula Dharmadasa and Metha Abeygunawardena will referee the matches. The tournament will be conducted in a carnival atmosphere with beer stalls, food stalls, music and competitions in addition to Bouncing Castle for kids (for children of the players).
