Help save baby Kumari's life S. A. N. T. D. Kumari, Suduwella (6) of 131/3 Thumbatenna, Halpe, Balangoda, an year two student of Puwakgahawela Vidyalaya, Belihul-Oya is suffering from an acute heart ailment Atrial Septal Defect (ASD hole in the heart). Consultant cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. Rajeeva R. Pieris has recommended an urgent open heart surgery to save her life. Her father S. D. Suduwella says the President's Fund has agreed to release Rs. 1,40,000 to facilitate part of the cost of the surgery. Since he is unable to find the balance money needed due to his present economic plight, he requests financial assistance from the public to facilitate the surgery and save the child's life. All contributions should be remitted to the Account number 207-714933-9 at the People's Bank (Balangoda branch). Chandra Anagiratna passes away Well-known author Chandra Anagiratne (66) died after a brief illness. Aanagiratne an unassuming character was the author of more than 30 books. He endeared himself to the readers mostly through his translations such as 'Dracula", Tom Sawyer" and "Udara Apeksha". He started life as an English assistant teacher and then became a station master. He also worked as a translator at the American Embassy. His remains lie in his home at Gannoruwa Road, Muruthalawa, Kandy. Funeral will take place at the Mahaiyawa cemetery in Kandy at 3.00 p.m. on November 15. |
