Lebanese authorities charge Lankan Counsellor The Daily News understands that the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Beirut Dr. M. I. M. Muhseen has informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tyronne Fernando and Minister of Employment and Labour Mahinda Samarasinghe that he was summoned by the authorities of the Security General's office along with W. J. P. Boteju, Counsellor/Employment and labour informed that on October 21 Sri Lankan migrant workers will not be able to get visas to go to Lebonon from November. According to the Ambassador three Generals of the Lebonese Security General's office had brought eight charges to the notice of the ambassdor against W. J. H. P. Boteju and Huda Halawi. The decision to stop issuing visas to Sri Lankan migrant workers had come in the wake of these allegations. The charges include demanding bribes from Sri Lankan migrant workers, organising a special insurance scheme exclusively for one person's company etc. In addition, Security General authorities have informed the ambassdor to submit all the passports that are being kept in the Embassy to check in the computer and find out the respective sponsors. |
