850 youths complete Youth Corps Leadership training A group of 850 youths passed out recently, after the successful completion of 18 months full-time training in various fields such as Leadership, Computer Science, Vocational Training and English Language. These Youth Corps leaders underwent training in the Training Centres at Rantambe, Embilipitiya, Heiyantuduwa and Eraminiyaya, set up under a program of forming Youth Corps, aiming at culturing a generation of youth to contribute to the national development directly, shaking up traditional thinking and negative attitude. These Youth Corps leaders passed out of the Training Centres at Rantambe, Embilipitiya, Heiyantuduwa and Eraminiyaya of which events Deputy Minister of Power and Energy, Sagala Ratnayake, Commander of Air Force Air Vice Marshal G. D. Perera and Major General K. B. Egodawela participated. They will be attached to the Divisional Youth Corps Training Centres being commenced at electorate level and they are expected to engage in training activities of members of Youth Corps. It has been scheduled to set up 50 Training Centres under the first phase of the program of establishing Regional Youth Corps Training Centres which will be started in every electorate of the country. Over 4,000 youths are engaged in training at the centres in Anuradhapura (West), Laggala, Mahiyanganaya, Bandarawela, Mulkirigala, Akmeemana, Galle, Tissamaharama, Deraniyagala, Galigamuwa, Attanagalla and Kuliyapitiya electorates. In addition to this, action is being taken to identify suitable places to start Youth Corps Training Centres and to provide them infrastructure and improvements if necessary. It has also been planned to start another 110 Training Centres under the 2nd phase of establishing Regional Youth Corps Centres, and a suitable location being looked out. The prime objective of the program of Youth Corps is to provide 18 months training in the fields of leadership, computer science, vocational training and English for more than 40,000 youths, thereby preparing them to face the challenges of the new world being equipped with self-determination and technical know-how. |
