WHO calls for N-E medical officers Trincomalee correspondent Medical institutions in both the Mullaithivu and Kilinochchi districts face a severe shortage of medical officers. Though several post intern medical officers were posted to Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu districts only one of them has reported to Kilinochchi hospital and none to Mullaithivu. North East Provincial Ministry have brought this situation to the notice of the National Health Development Committee in Colombo which has agreed to advertise vacancies for medical officers for Mullaithivu and Kilinochchi districts. Meanwhile the World Health Organisation (WHO) has advertised for position of medical officers. The WHO Sri Lanka and the North East Provincial Council (NEPC) invite applications for medical officers who can provide basic health services to the people of the NEP. Qualifications required are a recognised medical degree from a recognised University College in or outside Sri Lanka, registered to practice medicine and surgery in Sri Lanka or in the country of origin acceptable to the Sri Lanka Medical Council for temporary registration. Should be able to work independently in difficult conditions, circumstances. Applicants should be Sri Lankans, Sri Lankans living overseas, expatriates or ex-citizens of Sri Lanka. Applicants if selected should be able to take up appointment immediately. The appointment will be on contract basis for a limited term of one year ending 31st December, 2004. |
