Businessman killed over land dispute, say investigators by Sarath Malalasekera Colombo Crime Division (CCD) Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda investigating the killing of Colombo businessman, Lingam, told the Daily News yesterday that police suspected this to be a contract killing by a rival underworld gang in connection with a land dispute. Investigators have established the suspects' identities and their arrest is imminent, the CCD Director said. Colombo DIG Sirisena Herath on Thursday morning directed senior officers to strengthen and intensify security in the Colombo city to prevent suspects involved in crimes escaping after committing offences. Police said that Lingam, suspected to be a close associate of an underworld gang leader, was killed on Monday night opposite a newly opened tourist hotel in Bambalapitiya. Investigators found 16 spent bullets of T 56 and 9mm revolver calibre at the murder scene. |
