Massive pension fraud busted Panadura group corr. Panadura Police Crime and Fraud Bureau is conducting investigations into a massive fraud at the Pension Unit for retired government servants at the Panadura Divisional Secretariat since 1991. The total amount drawn by an ex-postal employee producing forged documents is exceeding rupees six lakhs. Police is to question the officer who prepared the pension pay sheets regarding the person who withdrew her mother's pension forwarding forged documents. According to the Police the father of a postal employee died in 1991. His wife withdrew the pension under the Widows' And Orphans' Pension Scheme. After her death her son, a postal employee prepared a forged identity card and documents and withdrew the pension on behalf of his late mother. The postal employee also retired and died recently. When his wife went to the Panadura Post Office and attempted to withdraw the pension producing the documents of his late husband who was a retired postal worker. The post office cashier who was paying the pensions had suspicion and caught the woman and complained to the Post Master and the Police subsequently. |
