Bayer CropScience strengthens Hayleys Agro products range with new partnership The Hayleys Group's four-decade long partnership with Bayer AG of Germany was reinforced in Colombo this week with the signing of an agreement between Bayer CropScience AG and Hayleys Agro Products Ltd., under which the latter will distribute and market a portfolio of more than 40 products from the German agrochemicals giant. The new agreement, necessitated by the establishment of Bayer CropScience following the acquisition last year by Bayer of Aventis CropScience, has resulted in an expansion of the range of Bayer products that will be marketed in Sri Lanka by Hayleys Agro Products, the company said. Bayer CropScience combines the businesses of Bayer's former Crop Protection Business Group and Aventis CropScience, another European company. Announcing the new agreement, Hayleys Agro Products Managing Director Rizvi Zaheed said it represents a consolidation of a relationship that began in 1961, when Hayleys was appointed sole distributor for Bayer products in Sri Lanka. Under the new agreement, Hayleys Agro Products will be the major distributor locally for Bayer CropScience, while a few former Aventis products would continue to be represented by a second distributor. The restructuring of Hayleys Agro Products Ltd., two years ago would help further strengthen Bayer's reach in Sri Lanka, through a stronger focus on the needs of the agro community, Zaheed said. "The extensive Bayer range will perfectly complement the vast portfolio of specialist products developed and marketed for the local agro sector by Hayleys," he added. |
