Complaint against two top cricketers by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy Sports correspondent Two top cricketers from a leading club in the hill capital may find themselves batting on a sticky wicket if the Disciplinary Committee of the Kandy District Cricket Association decides to take deterrent action against them on a written complaint made by the two umpires who officiated in the Mobitel Six-a-side cricket tournament organised by the Kandy District CA and played at the Asgiriya Stadium, in Kandy. The two umpires concerned K. A. Kamal Indrajith (a former President of the Kandy's ACUSL Branch) and D. N. A. D. Dissanayake (present Hony. Secretary of the ACUSL Kandy Branch) by a jointly signed letter dated 4th November, 2003, have complained the President of the ACUSL Kandy Branch Roland Perera and the Secretary of the Kandy District CA, Janaka Pathirana have alleged that when one of them ruled a batsman out from the offending cricketers team, they abused in foul language persistently by the two cricketers. This abusive language continued. They have also alleged that at the conclusion of the game, one of the offending cricketers had told them, that he did not use obscene language on them but it was the other who did everything. Thus betraying his companion in the abusing bout, which is also incriminating evidence. The letter also alleges that test umpire Peter Manuel also officiated in this tournament and when there was delay in arriving at the wicket by the batsman of one of the teams, these two cricketers had tried to command this umpire by shouting loudly. In conclusion the letter states that these two cricketers by their conduct had violated the "Code of Conduct for players as laid down by the MCC in 2000". The Secretary of the Kandy District CA said that this matter will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the Association for appropriate action. |
