Flintoff stars in England's easy win

Bangladesh, Friday - Andrew Flintoff marked his England return with a superb all-round display to wreck Bangladesh by seven wickets in the first one-day international here on Friday.

Flintoff, who missed the Test series against Bangladesh due to injury, claimed a career-best 4-14 before hitting an unbeaten 55 as England overtook the rivals' modest 143 all out with 24.3 overs to spare at the M.A. Aziz stadium.

The remaining two one-dayers will be played under lights at Dhaka's Bangabandhu National stadium on Monday and Wednesday.

Flintoff struck two sixes and nine fours in his 52-ball knock and Paul Collingwood chipped in with 36 not out after England lost three quick wickets.

"I enjoyed batting out there and got good support from Paul, who ensured we did not get carried away," the 25-year-old Lancashire star said.

"I was a bit surprised to see the bounce and it was not too bad a pitch to bowl on either." Flintoff was destructive with the ball earlier in the day when he dismissed the cream of Bangladesh's batting - Hannan Sarkar, Habibul Bashar and captain Khaled Mahmud - all caught behind by wicket-keeper Chris Read.

He returned for a second spell to terminate the innings by forcing last man Tapash Baisya to fend at a short ball and give an easy return catch.

Bangladesh lost five wickets for one run to slip from 65-2 to 66-7 as Flintoff, supported well by left-arm spinner Ashley Giles (3-29), ran through the middle-order.

After the Bangladesh tail had lifted the side past their lowest one-day total of 76 against Sri Lanka last year, Mushfiqur Rahman removed England openers Vikram Solanki and Marcus Trescothick off successive deliveries.

Solanki (10) was caught off the leading edge at mid-off and Trescothick (28), who had crossed over for a single, drove the next ball to gully.
