South Asians will find gay bishop hard to accept NEW DELHI, Tuesday (AFP) Christians in South Asia will find it "difficult to accept" the consecration of the first openly gay bishop by the US Episcopal Church, an Indian church leader said. However, John Dayal, the widely respected vice president of the All India Catholic Union, said whom to consecrate was a matter for the US church. "Fully respecting the rights of all people including people with different sexual preferences, the South Asian culture may find it difficult to accept the consecration of a known and openly gay person," Dayal told AFP. "However, it is for the Episcopal Church of the US to decide how it would like to give witness to its calling," said Dayal. "Needless to say such a situation would not be possible in any of the South Asian countries where both ecclestiastical and cultural traditions are more orthodox and conservative," Dayal said. |
