Lanka beat Pakistan to enter u-19 Asian final

LAHORE, Tuesday - Sri Lanka led by all-rounder Farveez Maharoof entered the final of the Asian under 19 cricket tournament when they beat Pakistan by 14 runs in their final qualifying round match played at Gaddafi Stadium here today.

Wicket-keeper/batsman Kaushal Silva hit a brilliant 88 off 117 balls with 10 fours and starred in two century partnerships with Harsha Vithana (50 off 91 balls, 4 fours) and Maharoof (57 not out off 56 balls, 4 fours, 1 six) to rescue Sri Lanka from 29-3 in nine overs to 248-5 in 50 overs.

Pakistan slumped to 151-7 in 37 overs before Riaz Afridi and Taair Mohammad put together a stand of 79 for the eighth wicket to carry Pakistan closer to victory. But the dismissal of Afridi in the 47th over for a brilliant 62 off 45 balls inclusive of five sixes and three fours, ended Pakistan's hopes.

Pakistan were eventually dismissed for 234 in the 49th over.
