by P. Balasingham in Washington Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met Deputy Secretary of Defence, Paul Wolfowitz at the Pentagon on Monday. The discussions central around military training, military facilities and working together. In this context the commanders of the Armed Forces heve already visited the USA. Here the focus was on actual technical cooperation. Foreign military funding, international military and education and training, foreign military sales were the subjects which formed the core of the talks by the PM and representatives of the US Defence Department. The PM met Daniel Yergin, President Cambridge Energy Research Associates, Sam Bodman, Deputy Secretary Commerce, Peace Corps Director Gaddi Vasquez and will attend a Luncheon Meeting at American enterprise. The meeting with the Deputy Secretary of Commerce considered as important as it is the Treasury that takes the decisions on funding. The signing of the MoU between the US Trade Development Agency and the Government for technical assistance was also scheduled for yesterday. |
