Gordon "Dad" Weir, dies aged 95 AUCKLAND, Sunday (AFP) The world's oldest Test cricketer, Gordon "Dad" Weir, has died in New Zealand aged 95. The honour of being the oldest Test player now passes to M.J. Gopalan, who played one Test for India in 1933-34. Weir, born on June 2, 1908, had been in declining health over the past year and died in Auckland late Friday. He was 21 when he played his first international for New Zealand against the MCC in 1930, and when his 11-Test career ended against England at the Oval in 1937 he had amassed 416 runs at an average of 29.71. His highest score was 74 not out against South Africa in 1931-32. |
