China on top Sarath Premathilake reporting from Hyderabad China with a total of seventeen gold medals were on top of the medals tally with just two days before the conclusion of the inaugural Afro Asian Games here in Hyderabad. China have also won six silver medals and three bronze medals while extending their dominance into the track and field events too. South Africa were placed second with a total of 12 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 13 bronze medals while Japan have won nine gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal. However the hosts India too have made their presence felt having already won a total of 50 medals including eight gold, 21 silver and 21 bronze medals. India have also qualified to play in the men's hockey and football tournament finals. Their hockey team will meet arch rivals Pakistan while the football team will take on Uzbekistan. India had the better of Pakistan 4-2 earlier in a qualifying round game and defeated Malaysia on penalties in the semi-finals. Pakistan entered the final overcoming Kenya 2 nil in the semi-finals. |
