Motion on PM's UN speech defeated in Attanagalla PS

by Attanagalla special corr.

The JVP is attempting to make political mileage by giving a wrong impression of the speech made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to the UN General Assembly, Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha's Vice Chairman M. I. Nisthar Ahamed (UNF) said at its monthly meeting held on Tuesday.

Replying to a JVP motion against the Premier's UN speech the Vice Chairman said that the Prime Minister has never justified the US attack on Iraq. He just pointed out the reforms that should be made in the Security Council's role.

The motion moved by JVP member Hemal Mendis claimed that the Prime Minister had justified the attack on Iraq in his speech. That speech shocked the Muslim Community. So we totally condemn it, the member said.

Vice Chairman M. I. Nisthar Ahamed said that none of the Muslim countries protested against the speech. "Only JVPers are shedding tears over us but their sole attempt is to gain political mileage, he said.

The motion was defeated with all twelve UNF members present voting against the motion. Several PA members were absent at the voting time.
