New Principal of Royal College assumes duties by Ananda Kannangara Upali Gunasekara (42) assumed duties as the new Principal of Royal College, Colombo yesterday. He succeeded Lakshman Gomes who retired from service last week. A Science graduate from University of Peradeniya, Gunasekara began his educational career in 1988. In 1989 he joined the Sri Lanka Educational Administrative Service (SLEAS). He also served in the Ministry of Education for a short period. Gunasekara has a distinguished 15- year career in the field of education. He was the Deputy Principal and also the acting principal of D.S. Senanayaka Vidyalaya from August 1990 to 1997. He was the Principal of Isipathana Vidyalaya from 1997 till yesterday. Gunasekara is one of the youngest to be appointed as Principal of Royal College, Colombo. An old boy of Ananda College, Colombo, Gunasekara had his early education at Richmond College, Galle, following excellent results he obtained from the scholarship examination. Gunasekara told the Daily News that he will promote College education while developing school extra curricular and co-curricular activities. |
