"Role of UNO crucial factor in modern world"

Matara Central correspondent

The role of the UNO has become a crucial factor in the context of the changes in the international power relations after the collapse of the Soviet bloc. Recent military interventions by the Superpowers have made the strengthening of the UNO more vital, said C.A. Lenin Samaradivakara Director, Centre for International Education addressing the United Nation's Day commemoration meeting organized by the Rahula College UNESCO Association held at the Matara Rahula College auditorium.

Samaradivakara further said, the only hope of the peace loving peoples of the world is the UNO in spite of the setback received recently. The world opinion both in the developed and the developing countries has become a challenge to the superpowers. So the UNO has become the forum for the expression of the world opinion against war.

UNESCO - the most broad-based affiliate of the UNO has contributed immensely to the improvement of the quality of living of the people, which in turn will help to build a culture of peace, concluded Samaradivakara.

Principal of the Rahula College Kithsiri Liyanagamage, Chandra Kumara Gunawardene, Sarath Premachandra and the President of Rahula College UNESCO Association also spoke.
