No reduction in allocations for education - Minister Attanayake

Sigiriya group correspondent

There would be no reduction in allocations for Education - school uniforms and text books. Do your best to enjoy the opportunities awarded to you, said the Minister of Central Region Development Tissa Attanayake.

He said so laying the foundation at Kaikawela MV's Science laboratory in Matale. The same day another school function was held at Warakamure Anmur MV, where the foundation was laid for a library.

Minister Attanayake said that what the Government spends is public money. The recipients should be judicious so as to use it for the public benefit. He said now under this Government, education is not a luxury for a selected few schools in Colombo and other cities. Educational infrastructure and other materials are distributed equally. Distribution of teachers especially for rural areas are well-designed. Primary teachers of Colleges of Education are posted to most difficult areas. This is to bring uniformity in Education. There is no need for any parent to compete for popular school - when matters have been made to fulfil your needs of your children, said the Minister.

We need to have changes or modifications in our educational system. Education and the country's needs are at cross-roads. Our planners of education have to make adjustment to eliminate this lacuna, said the Minister. MP (Rattota electorate) Matale District Sanjeewa Kaviratne, Provincial Councillor Rohana Bandaranayake and Director of Education Matale Zone A. Muthu Banda too spoke.
