President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in a message sent to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) protest rally in Town Hall said that plans are foot to provide 50,000 jobs for unemployed graduates under a government soon to be established under the People's Alliance.

In her message read out by SLFP General Secretary and Polonnaruwa district MP Maitripala Sirisena to a dispersing crowd she said that the country was in a grave crisis as the Government has allowed the strengthening of the LTTE under the ongoing peace process. The President in her message to the rally made a number of pledges that are to be fulfilled under a PA government. That included the implementation of the Tissa Devendra Salary Commission recommendations, concessions for farmers, fishermen and Samurdhi beneficiaries.

Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse told the rally that the time is rife for the President to use the power vested with her to act according to the requirement of the public to form a new government.

"The hundreds and thousands of people gathered here signals that time has rife to use President's power", Rajapakse added. Leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna and Colombo district MP Dinesh Gunawardhana said the country has been protected because the President was elected for a second term in 2000.

Gunawardhana added that the peace process has allowed the LTTE to strength their cadres from 6,000 to 18,000 during the ceasefire and added that the country's security situation is at stake now.

MP Lakshman Kadirgamar said the Sri Lanka Freedom Party fully endorses the statement made by the Indian Government on the Interim Administration proposals and the human rights situation of the country.

"That was what the SLFP argued for two years and we are happy that Indian Government also stating the same issue now", Kadirgamar added.

Colombo District JVP MP Wimal Weerawansha said the history of the country press the two parties the SLFP and the JVP to form an alliance to protect the country from the immediate danger and horror situation.
