Katina Pinkama of Vavulagala Viharaya

The Katina Pinkama of Vavulagala Sri Shailakutaramaya Gallen Viharaya, Baddegama will be held today under the patronage of the Viharadhipathi Venerable Mapakande Sumana Thera.

The Katina Perahera will start from the House of M.W. Robert to parade the streets to reach the Viharaya tonight.

On the 25th, the Katina Cheevara Pooja will be held after offering Heel Dana to Bhikkus. The forenoon Dana will be offered to 50 Bhikkhus on Saturday as the three months remembering Pinkama of late Venerable Baddegama Wimalasara Thera to conclude the ceremony.

Mother Teresa's beatification on TV

More than a quarter-million people - rich and poor, royal and regular - flooded St. Peter's Square on Sunday for the beatification of Mother Teresa, honoring the nun who built shelters, orphanages and clinics around the world to care for those forsaken by everyone else. MTV Channel will bring this to Sri Lankan viewers on Sirasa TV, Shakthi TV and MTV channels. Sirasa TV will telecast proceedings on October 26 Sunday at 9 p.m., MTV (English) on October 26 Sunday at 10.30 p.m. and Shakthi TV (With subtitles in Tamil) on October 27 Monday at 1.30 p.m.

Nursing assistants available

Service of male and female nursing assistants could be obtained from Sri Lanka Saukyadana Movement, 120, W.A.D. Ramanayake Mawatha, Colombo 02, and a two month course is also conducted to train male and female nursing assistants at the above address, states a Saukyadana Movement press release.

Death of DGM, People's Bank

K.B. Kumarapathirana a veteran Banker who was the Deputy General Manager (Branches and Overseas Customers services) at the People's Bank passed away.

He joined the bank as a Branch Manager in 1973 and served at various branches of the bank scattered throughout the Island. At the time of his death he was holding a senior position in the Corporate Management of the People's Bank. A first class honours graduate (Economics) from the Kelaniya University, he also earned a postgraduate degree in Computer Science from the Colombo University.

As a Lecturer and writer in the Banking subjects, he has contributed to his chosen profession and remained a most popular figure among his colleagues and subordinates.

His funeral will be held on Saturday October 25 at Borella Kanatta at 4 pm and the cortege will leave the house at 2.45 pm. His remains lie at No. 264/8, Thembiligasmulla Road, Makola, Kiribathgoda.

Special Parents Day

A special Parents Day to coincide with the 59th Anniversary celebrations of the Royal College Scout Group will be held on October 25, (Saturday), graced by Colombo's Mayor Prasanna Gunawardene.

Proceedings will begin at 4 p.m. and will be followed by an exhibition and the camp fire at Royal College junior grounds.

DBU celebrates Founder's Day

The Dutch Burgher Union (DBU) celebrated its Founder's Day, on Wednesday. The DBU was set up on October 22, 1908, by R G Anthonisz to represent the social, economic and political interests of the Dutch Burgher community.

The chief guest on the occasion was the ambassador of the Netherlands in Sri Lanka, Ms. Susan Blankhart.
