by Sarath Malalasekera A Life Saving and Swimming competition organised by the Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka will be held at Ibbankaduwa, Dambulla today and tommorow. A tank has been specially constructed for this competition which is being held for the third time, Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka, President DIG Sirisena Herath said. The opening event will be 1000 meters marathan final (4 age groups girls and boys) and 100 meters beach spring final (all age groups). A stage drama on Drug Prevention (Kala Mangallaya) will be held at Dambulla National School Grounds from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The chief guest Ted Chaiban, Central Range West DIG Nimal Mediwaka, chairman of the organising committee, DIG Crimes, Criminal Intelligence and Organised Crimes and Chairman Police Acquatic Sirisena Herath and Advisor of Sri Weera Densil Kobbekaduwa Life Saving and Acquatic Club and Principal Palwehera KV D.R.J. Dehigama will address the ceremony. This is a part of a long-term programme on crime and drug prevention which is being vigorously implemented. "We have also arranged Anti-Crime Street Dramas and painting competitions and planned to put up banners on drugs and alcohol prevention to mark the event", DIG Herath said. The approval of the Ministry of Education has been obtained and the Minister of Education and the Acting IGP Indra de Silva are expected to grace the competition in Dambulla as chief guests. DIG Herath said that as a matter of necessity, in promoting Police Public relations, the Association has suggested to transport the participants for the event in Police vehicles. |
