by Florence Wickramage Shakthi TV celebrating their 5th anniversary this year will join the National Jak Development Project (NJDP) of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) and the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry to launch the islandwide Jak Planting Ceremony on October 25 to commemorate the Tree Planting Month. The main ceremony will be held at 9.20 a.m. at the Viharamaha Devi Park with the participation of clergy, the public and environmentalists. This ceremony will be telecast live over the Sirasa TV channels. School children from 10 schools in the Colombo district will join in the tree planting ceremony where Jak saplings, Pihimbiya, Teak, Mahogany and Breadfruit plants will be distributed for planting. Officials of the Sirasa TV, ANCL, NJDP and environmental associations will attend the ceremony. Sirasa TV and NJDP requests the public to join in the ceremonies to be held islandwide and plant a tree on October 25 at 9.20 a.m. to ensure a `Green World'. |
