Support peace process - Ven. Pelpola Vipassi

Pelpola Vipassi Thera of the Pelpola Vipassi Foundation in Japan, who addressed the 4th Tamil Sahithiya Villa at Nuwara Eliya called upon all communities living in the country to extend their fullest co-operation and support the ongoing peace process.

He said the Peace loving masses of the nation should seriously think that whether the Sinhala or Tamils all came from India originally and their traditions, cultural and religious background were alike and have close links. Hence, it was of paramount importance for them to support peace negotiations and develop the country for all races to live in amity with economic stability in keeping with the global expectations.

The Thera paid tribute to the Tamils for maintaining unity and peace and said such trends were due to the efforts of late CWC leader Saumiyamoorthy Thondaman and others. He said even Arumugam Thondaman was following his grandfather's footsteps.

He said his Foundation was ready to give assistance for the New General Hospital for Nuwara Eliya and Kotagala.

The two day Sahithiya villa celebrations was organised by the Central Provincial Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

The Chief Minister of the Central Province Wasantha Aluvihare, the Governor of Central Province Monty Gopallawa, former Indian Loksaba member Kumari Anandan, Deputy High Commissioner Atwal Malhotra, leading Religious dignitaries, Professionals graced the occasion and men of eminence were honoured and awards were presented for their service.

Dr. Kumari Anandan of India author of thirty books and a man who has widely travelled said there was a clear indication that the country's peace efforts will succeed for the people to have a bright future.

Chief Minister Wasantha Aluvihare said elements with communal tendencies and parochial thinking should forget their ideologies in the interest of the country and its people and work for a United Sri Lanka by supporting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The chief minister also assured that he will do his best for the people living in this part of the country as a Chief Minister.

Governor of the Central Province Monty Gopallawa said that his council possessed leadership of the highest calibre to safeguard the people of all communities living in all parts of the country and said it was creditable that the 4th Sahithiya villa celebrations was held during this time at Nuwara Eliya.
