Bangalore takes Singapore Netball title

Singapore emerged champions at the October Gala open invitation international netball championships concluded at the Biddock Stadium in Singapore yesterday.

Singapore maintained an unbeaten record in the league tournament winning all four matches.

Hatton National Bank and Thailand won two out of their four matches while Malaysia managed to win only a solitary game. The combined Nationalised Services team which was the second team from Sri Lanka to participate in this tournament failed to win a single match.

In the final league match of the tournament Hatton National Bank had the better of Thailand by 61 goals to 45. The Hatton National Bank team was captained by Harshani Wijayalathge and included experienced players Jayanthi Somaratne, Chamika Aponso, Somitha Kumari and Gayathri Lankatilleke.

The combined Nationalised Services team was led by Damayanthi Jayatilleke and also includes N. Samanthika, R. Victoria, M. Preethika, M. Priyadarshani, R. A. Yapa, N. Wijeratne, D. Mediwaka, U. Dissanayake, P. Kamalani, P. Liyanage, S. Wickremarachchi, I. Jayaweera, D. Swarnasili and V. Mallikarachchi.
