Cherish Biscuits receives ISO 9002 certification

Cherish Biscuits (Pvt) Ltd., a leading biscuit manufacturer in the North Central Province, has received ISO 9002:1994 certification for excellence in the manufacture of high quality confectionary products.

The company's Chairman/Managing Director Sunil Vidanage said this certification covers the quality management systems pertaining to quality assurance in production under stringent and hygienic conditions, installation and regular servicing of equipment in the manufacture of biscuits and wafers.

With this accreditation, Cherish Biscuits is accepted as a certified Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) quality assessed company with regard to its production, products, services and quality management.

"This ISO 9002:1994 certification and the SLSI acceptance of our quality and standards would enable Cherish Biscuits to penetrate international markets in the future," Vidanage said.

With a current production capacity of over 300 tons per month Cherish Biscuits intends to expand its market share locally and capture overseas markets as well.

The company has an intention to increase its export market percentage, which is five percent at present, to 10 percent within the next year, Vidanage said.

Cherish Biscuits manufactures and markets a wide range of biscuits and cream wafers in attractive, well structured packaging to retain quality and freshness through stringent quality control systems now accredited to ISO standards, until the products reach the consumers.

Established by the late Vidanage John Appuhamy in 1942 Cherish Biscuits commenced operation in the Jaffna peninsula, as a manually operated bakery for biscuits, bread and cakes and subsequently moved to Anuradhapura in 1975.

In 1992 the entire biscuit manufacturing plant was automated and today the company is in a position to meet the demands of customers worldwide.
