Lanka's Bajaj 2 and 3 wheelers for East-African Continent David Pieris Motor Co. Ltd, through their subsidiary David Pieris International (Pvt) Ltd, (DPI) have been successful in capturing the East-African Continent in exporting Bajaj 2 and 3 wheelers and they are now on the threshold of a pilot project for transfer of technology for self-employment. DPI as the East African branch of DPMC is incorporated to carry on business in Tanzania, East Africa. DPI first set foot on East African soil in December 1999. Its operation was mainly handled by Sri Lankans and Tanzanian nationals drawing the wealth of experience from its holding company-DPMC. Having implemented this pilot project a Tanzanian from East Africa is in Sri Lanka, to receive training in repairs, service and maintenance of Bajaj 2 and 3 wheelers at their state-of-the-art facilities complex in Madapatha, Piliyandala. The objective of DPMC is to create a viability of generating self employment to Tanzania as it has done successfully in Sri Lanka. Further stabilisation in the technical sphere is confirmed by affording the opportunity to these Tanzanians to proceed to Bajaj Auto Ltd., India - the manufacturers of Bajaj 2 and 3 wheelers for further intense training, so that they will be fully conversant in hands-on experience in the repair, servicing and maintenance of those vehicles. DPMC said that through DPI in Tanzania more self-employment opportunities would be created and thus afford Tanzanians a more economical mode of employment. |
