Create value systemed corporate culture, trust to eradicate corruption - Dr. Covey

Sri Lanka should endeavour to create a value systemed corporate culture which is built on a high level of trust which should set the trend of eradicating corruption and increase transparency, Global leadership Authority, family expert, organisational consultant, celebrated author and Co- Chairman of Franklin Covey Dr. Stephen.R. Covey told a news conference at the Colombo Hilton on Saturday.

The focus is on principled centred leadership where it is a combination of ethics and pragmatics, he said.

The news conference was held to announce the franchise agreement of Franklin Covey in Sri Lanka. Franklin Covey is a leading global professional service firm which assists professional and organisations in enhancing productivity, leadership, communications and sales. CEO of Dynamix International will be the franchisee for Sri Lanka.

The Franchise Agreement will enable the local arm- Dynamix International to offer Sri Lankan companies the same opportunities that are available to their US and all other counterparts. The professional services of the company have been received in South Asia with the Headquarters in India.

Dr. Covey said:" What the corporate world needs is a Balanced Report Card system for both the Government and the private sectors which should set out all information accurately and transparently which would create a patriotic image and which will create a balanced approach. It is indeed important that there is a information that is transparent which should root out corruption.

It is important that there is a culture level of integrity and this will stabilise democracy and eradicate corruption, he said. It is important that corporate Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Chief Financial Officers (CFO) should be held accountable for all the statements they sign otherwise they will be responsible for felony, he said.

Asked what his advice to Sri lankan corporate leaders was, he said that the employers have to realise that today was the age of the knowledge worker where the value addition was over 80 percent." All accounting systems today are obsolete in the knowledge of the worker- age and there is a powerful transformation of the society in the world, he said.

He said that the symbol of the trim tab which makes small rudder turn the big rudder of a ship was very relevant in the management context. If Sri Lanka could use the principles of leadership in their offices and homes through productivity, empowerment, innovation and teamwork, it could become the cutting edge of global economy.

Chief Mentor of Franklin Covey- South Asia based in India Rajan Kaicker said that Franklin Covey Asia was headquartered in India with its presence in Mumbai and Delhi with Bangalore being the third in the pipeline. He said that nowhere as largely as Asia will be able to determine solutions to management issues and it was gratifying that 650 corporate executives were present on a Saturday to determine the future of their professional lifestyles.

Franklin Covey's President/General Manager David Covey said that the US based International form had 40 global franchisees in 102 countries and that the partnership agreement in Sri Lanka was a sequel to one signed in Korea, Malaysia and Thailand and that prospects in Sri Lanka were exciting.

Dr. Covey's Personal Assistant Julie Allistair said that the company has a very customised approach when dealing with franchisees worldwide where they receive even the demographic trends and the culture of companies and synergies where efforts to make audiences compatible in terms of language, culture and translations. A book translation to Japanese has seen that a million copies had been sold, she said.
