India's chief poll regulator says elections in September PATNA, India, Friday (AFP) India's chief election commissioner J.M. Lyngdoh ruled out the possibility of early general elections and said they will be held as scheduled in September next year. "Indian government has not sought early polls and the general elections will be held on time in September next year," Lyngdoh told reporters in the eastern Indian state Bhihar's capital Patna. He added that for the first time electronic voting machines will be used throughout the country for the general elections. Political observers have said that the Hindu-nationalist BJP-led government may opt for early elections in February. |
