Chris Patten here on two day visit

The External Relations Commissioner of the European Commission Chris Patten will arrive in the island at the end of this month on a two day visit.

He will call on the President, Prime Minister and Ministers during his stay, Charge 'D' Affairs of the delegation of the European Commission to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Wouter L. Wilton told Lankapuvath.

He said this will be a good opportunity for Sri Lanka to seek assistance from Patten as he possessed a considerable knowledge in conflict resolution. Patten will also visit the North.

Senior delegates of the European Union including Foreign Ministers of Italy and Ireland representative Javier Solana and Patten had pledged their commitment and support to the peace process during their talks with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in New York.

The European Union has expressed the relief that Sri Lanka will soon witnesses a rapid development with the re-starting of peace process.

The European Union has given billions of rupees to Sri Lanka for the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the areas devastated in the war in the North and East as well as other parts of the country.
