The first ever SLAF Open Squash Tournament was conducted in 2001 to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Sri Lanka Air Force with the blessings of the then Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal J. Weerakkody.

The second annual tournament was given ranking status and organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation.
