Shehan tastes Chivas Regal

by Richard Dwight

Amidst the cheers of participants and golf enthusiasts at the Royal Colombo Golf Club last Saturday evening, Shehan Ramanayake, the winner of Group 'A' made his way to receive the Chivas Regal Trophy and gift from the Sales Manager of Periceyl (Pvt) Ltd., Bismajit Wickremasinghe.

Despite interruptions due to rain in this Chivas Regal October Monthly Medal Round Golf, sponsored by Periceyl (Pvt) Ltd. and conducted by the RCGC - the game was the thing and play went on with quite a few golfers being confronted with varied challenges which had to be grappled with in order to forge ahead.

Those who stood out at this competition was Shehan Ramanayake who posted a two under par 69 to win the Group 'A' over S.T.B. Jayasinghe who registered a 70 better back 9. There was Teppei Tanokura 3 under par 68 and Dr. H. Herath 2 under par 69 who took the first two spots in Group 'C' while the consistent J.M.C. Perera took the senior event.

Sri Lankan pool players Lalith Kumara and J.J. Kumar impressed in their category. Addressing the gathering at the awards ceremony, the Sales Manager of Periceyl (Pvt) Ltd., Bismajit Wickremasinghe said that his company sponsored last year's tournament too and, were happy this year as well, to be associated with a prestigious tournament held at a very prestigious club, the RCGC.

Mindful that the RCGC was arriving at a very significant milestone in its history, that of 125 years in 2004, Wickremasinghe announced that his company would sponsor yet another tournament next year around to mark this important occasion in the life of the RCGC.

He was thankful to the media for its support and to the Brand Development Executive, Chithalka Ambrose, who worked hard to ensure that everyone had an enjoyable evening.
