Police rescue abused boys from Children's Home by Nadira Gunatilleke The special police unit of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has detected 11 boys between the age of 9 and 13 who had been sexually abused from Vajira Sri Rehabilitation Children's Home, Sri Jayawardenepura, NCPA media coordinator Dimuthu Galappaththi said. He said that the special police unit had searched the children's home on October detected that the 11 boys were exploited by two robed persons and eight youths who served at the children's home. The special police unit took the children into their custody and boarded them at a safe place. One robed person and six youths have been taken into custody by the special police unit and another four suspects surrendered to the unit on October 8. The suspects were produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate. The special police unit headed by OIC SI W.D.T. Wijesena also discovered that the children had made several complaints of sexual exploitation in previous occasions but the authorities had not listened to them. Further investigations will be conducted by the unit. |
