The proposed Peace Deployment Council will be called upon to hold assemblies on peace with a common statement issued on basic issues agreed on. According to a joint media release issued by Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne and Vasudeva Nanayakkara: All parties, political organisations and political factions that stand for devolution and interim administration are to be called for an assembly on peace, and a common statement to be issued on basic things agreed. Should condemn the racist militaristic campaign. (A secretariat can be formed to coordinate the decisions of the assembly that meets frequently). According to the release common campaigns should be recognised with separate party marches that arrive at a common meeting to support peace and to condemn racism. This could be done in all large cities. Meetings held under white peace flags. Other proposals are leaflet distributions throughout the country with parties distributing the same leaflet separately, on the same day. University peace movement should be formed with academics and students and this movement could organise meetings in all universities. Debate to be held on this topic with different speakers from all parties in the assembly. Work place delegates' conferences and workers meetings in support of peace should be called by the TU reps in the assembly. Discussions could be allowed, the release said. |
