Canadian baseball umpire to conduct training clinics On the invitation by the Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball / Softball Association, a Canadian umpiring Expert is in the country, to conduct training clinics for the local baseball umpires and Coaches. Richard Christy, a well experienced trainer from the British Columbia Baseball Umpires Association is conducting various training clinics using his own developed manuals in Colombo and Polonnaruwa. He counts 20 years of experience in umpiring more than 2000 games in Canada and the US region. Richard who is a past president of the British Columbia Baseball Umpires Association is currently working as the Master Course Director of the Association in Canada. Richard has brought some valuable baseball equipments to be distributed among the local teams. Apart from training the Umpires, Richard will assist the Association's residence Coach UEDA in training the local Coaches to meet the demand in line with the Associations plan to increase the number of teams to 100 in the next 06 months. UEDA will spend a session with the Pitchers and the Catchers of the National teams. They will train these players in order to update with the modern techniques that are been widely used by the professional players in the US region. Sri Lanka recorded two international wins during a period of less than one year by, the National Team beating the Singapore and the under 18 years youth team beating Thailand, in the Asian Championships. Japanese Coach UEDA, who was responsible in these two wins for the Country says " It is vital to have, trained Coaches and Umpires if the Country wants to be in the best 05 Baseball playing nations in the whole of Asia. Several Umpires and Coaches from the Polonnaruwa and Dambulla region, will also be trained by Mr. Richard. |
