Kumara leads Sri Lanka golfers to Pakistan

by Richard Dwight

Winging their way to Pakistan tomorrow evening in quest of championship honours at the Pakistan Amateur Open Golf Competition from November 9 to 12 at the Islamabad Golf Club, will be the Sri Lanka Golf team.

The selected team, which had the approval of the Sports Ministry, comprises Lalith Kumara captain, Narahenpitage Amarapadma, J. M. D. Indika and J. J. Kumar.

All four amateur golfers have displayed consistent form and acquitted themselves well in the recently concluded Sri Lanka Open Golf Championship, with Amarapadma coming right on top to win.

Much is expected of Lalith Kumara, who is making his sixth visit to Pakistan. Last year Kumara was runner-up to Sri Lankan Anura Rohana, now turned pro: and in the year 2001 was placed third.

Rising star Amarapadma, is on his second visit to Pakistan and with the experienced gained, should give a good account of himself, while Indika and J. J. Kumar could be in the running.
