The inauguration ceremony of the scientific sessions will be held at the Ceylon Continental Hotel on October 9 at 6.30 p.m.

Minister of Power and Energy, Karu Jayasuriya will be the chief guest. Minister of Health, Nutrition and Welfare, P. Dayaratne will be the guest of honour.

The theme of the conference is "Sharing knowledge" and a number of eminent specialists from UK, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Singapore and India are expected to deliver guest lectures.

Participants from the SAARC countries will be able to share their experiences with the world-renowned specialists at this academic session.

The conference will serve as an ideal setting for the better dissemination of emerging knowledge to the needy quarters of the SAARC region, a press release from the organisers said.

Skin diseases including leprosy and sexually transmitted diseases are common health problems in the SAARC region. There will be symposia on leprosy, sexually transmitted diseases, health education, hair disorders, eczema and special clinical problems of Sri Lanka.

There will be special emphasis on rapid advancing subspecialities such as Dermatopathology, Dermatosurgery and Laser Therapy. A wide array of topics relevant to dermatology, leprology and venereology will be covered by the free papers and poster exhibition. The participants are assured of rare chance of updating themselves in the recent advances with special attention focused on skin diseases unique to the region.

A large number of foreign delegates and their spouses have already registered for the conference. The organising committee has arranged a series of social events and a programme for the accompanying persons. There will be ample opportunities for visiting places of social and cultural interest too.
