Clarification With reference to the report of Daily News October 01, 2003 headlined 'Canadian role sought to get LTTE back to talks' referring to the recent visit to Canada of Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando it was stated that "Fernando is the first Sri Lankan Foreign Minister to visit Canada in 24 years". The office of former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, M.P. has informed that this is incorrect. When he was Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kadirgamar paid a four-day visit to Canada between September 14 and 17, 2000 during which he addressed the International Conference on War Affected Children and had official meetings with Lloyd Axworthy, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Members of Parliament and senior officials of the Canadian Government. |
