Emirates cabin crew supports women's health Emirates' cabin crew will be wearing pink ribbons in support of the worldwide Breast Cancer Awareness Month during the month of October. In an international campaign to raise awareness of the disease and funding for research into cancer cure. "Breast cancer is sadly the commonest cause of untimely death in women," said Dr. Alasdair Beatton, Emirates' Senior Vice President Medical Services. "The simplest, most effective means of countering the disease is by regular self examination, which is so simple and easy, and ought to be as common a part of every-day life as brushing one's teeth. "I hope all women will use this initiative in October to be more aware of breast cancer and the advantages of early detection", Beatton said. Evelyn Lauder, Founder of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, inspired the campaign. "Our first year, when we awarded eight scientists with grants averaging $12,500 each, we knew it was only the beginning" said Ms Lauder. "On October 8, just a decade later, at our annual luncheon, we hope to fill the stage of the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, with more than 65 of the world's top scientists, and present the largest number of grants and the highest amount ever - over $14 million - in the history of the Foundation!" |
