Lanka 'A' level one-day series with 5-wicket win Half-centuries from left-handers Michael Vandort, Avishka Gunawardana and Naveed Nawaz saw Sri Lanka 'A' beat South Africa 'A' by five wickets with 10 balls to spare in the second one-day limited over match and square the three-match series 1-all at Willowmoore Park, Benoni on Sunday. Sri Lanka were left to chase 262 in 50 overs and reached their target in 48.2 overs. Their run chase was built on an opening partnership of 67 between Vandort and Gunwardana. Vandort made 66 before being run out by Friend and Gunawardana thumped a hard hit 51. Sri Lanka 'A' slipped to 125-3, but the run chase was continued by another left-handed pair when Nawaz joined his captain Russell Arnold. The pair went onto add 87 for the fourth wicket before Arnold was trapped lbw for 22. But Nawaz carried on to make a top score of 75. Earlier South Africa 'A' who were put into bat first hit up an impressive 261-7 off their 50 overs with van Wyk, Justin Ontong and Kent scoring half-centuries. Fast bowler Thilan Thushara picked up three wickets, but the most impressive spell came from former Sri Lanka fast bowler Nuwan Zoysa who conceded 35 runs in his 10 overs for the wicket of opener Amla, whose century in the first match enabled South Africa to win. |
