Poster campaign on child trafficking

by Nadira Gunatilleke

The National Workers' Congress (NWC) is commemorating International Children's Day with a countrywide poster campaign under the theme of 'Stop trafficking children'.

The after school education centres under the NWC Darusetha (caring for disadvantaged children) program will be marking this occasion with various cultural and sports activities. Approximately 350 children are expected to participate at the nine centres.

The child protection societies established under the child domestic workers programme and implemented in 12 estates in five districts will also participate in various activities to commemorate the International Children's Day.

Trafficking of children takes place in Sri Lanka in a clandestine environment it is often veiled from the public. The community must be sensitised and made aware of child trafficking, so that they could intervene and stop trafficking.
