Madhu road re-opens The road leading to Madhu shrine on the Mannar-Vavuniya road, which was closed for a few weeks following the feast at Madhu shrine re-opened on Thursday for pilgrims and also the people residing in the villages along the road. Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugee Minister Prof. Jayalath Jayawardhana re-opened this road on Thursday. Religious dignitaries, Security Forces personnel, LTTE representatives and Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission representatives were present. With the opening of the road, people residing in the villages surrounding the Madhu shrine will be able to use this road for their daily activities cutting down a detour of around 40 to 60 kilometers. Due to the closure of the road these villagers had to reach Uilankulam checkpoint to access Mannar - Vavuniya road. Government servants and other officials, especially patients had to face immense hardships due to the closure of the road. The Defence Ministry gave green light for the re-opening of the road on Monday under certain conditions following lengthy discussions they had with the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission and the Government Agent in Vavuniya. The road will be opened for public daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Chief incumbent of Madhu Road Sri Bodhiraja Viharaya Ven. Pihimbiyagolleve Siri Bharathi thera, Mannar Bishop Rayappu Joseph, Vavuniya Security Forces Commander Major General Susil Chandrapala, LTTE Mannar district political wing leader Amirthap were present. |
