High-level meeting between LTTE-SLMM tomorrow

by Ranil Wijayapala

In a bid to increase cooperation between the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) and the LTTE area leaders, all LTTE political heads and all district heads of SLMM will gather in Kilinochchi tomorrow.

SLMM Spokeswoman Agnes Bragadottir told the Daily News yesterday that SLMM Chief Gen. Tryggve Tellefsen and LTTE Political Wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan have fixed this meeting as agreed during their meeting in Kilinochchi two weeks back.

This will be the first ever meeting of such magnitude between the SLMM and LTTE since the signing of the Ceasefire Agreement and will be a crucial one to build up better relationship between the two parties.

All the SLMM heads from Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara will participate in this meeting along with the SLMM Chief and other officers attached to the SLMM Headquarters.

"Each district SLMM office will be able to raise their problems at this meeting and to direct them to respective LTTE political wing leaders in each districts in the presence of LTTE Political Wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan," Bragadottir added.

"The two parties will decide the amount of time to discuss each issue considering its relevance and importance," Bragadottir added.

All the LTTE Political Heads, Ilamparuthi from Jaffna, Elilan from Vavuniya, Amirthap from Mannar, Thilak from Trincomalee, Kaushalyan from Batticaloa and Papa from Ampara are scheduled to participate in this meeting on Sunday morning. The meeting will be a crucial one to shed differences between the two parties, as there were several complaints against the LTTE for ignoring the SLMM rulings and over the denial of access to LTTE controlled areas for investigation.

LTTE Peace Secretariat Head S. Puleethevan and Bavan are also scheduled to attend the meeting.
