Lankan top in computer science at A Level examination Jerastin Dubash has done the country proud! At the recently conducted London A-Level 2002 examination, young Jerastin achieved the best results in the world in Computer Science. This is indeed an immense honour for the country as well as for her school - Colombo International school. At a glittering awards ceremony held at Colombo Plaza, she was given a stunning trophy and medal to commemorate her unique achievement by Mrs. Sharon Evans, wife of the British High Commissioner as an audience of over 500 gave her a standing ovation. Jerastin is presently following a degree programme in Computer Science at the University of Stanford, California, USA. That in itself is an achievement since she is the only student from Sri Lanka to have entered this prestigious university in the past 4 years. According to David Sanders, principal of the Colombo International School, Jerastin was a very able and disciplined student who always gave her best while she was in school. He said it was evident that computing was her forte although she had achieved very good results in other subjects as well. While at CIS she helped design the school website under the able Mrs. Dumaris Wickremanayake. She was a delegate at the colombo Model Untied Nations and a representative at the Future World Leaders Summit held in Washington DC, USA in July 2001. Jerastin has been appointed Peer Advisor to freshmen in her second year at Stanford. She is also actively involved in helping refugees cope with their problems. She will be putting this invaluable experience to use on her return to Sri Lanka. She also intends to work towards obtaining assistance from the university societies to help Sri Lankan refugees. Jerastin is the daughter of Aspi and Saroshi Dubash. |
