SC dismisses application for special leave to appeal by Wasantha Ramanayake The Supreme Court dismissed the application for Special Leave to Appeal filed by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) seeking to quash the interim order issued by the Court of Appeal directing the SLBFE to accept and process the applications for employment submitted by a foreign employment agency. The Bench comprised Justices H.S.Yapa, T.B. Weerasuriya and Nihal Jayasinghe. The appellant SLBFE cited Suraj D. Dandeniya proprietor of the Foreign Employment Agency "Acura" as the petitioner-respondent. The appellant contended that since the appellant was not a licence holder under the SLBFE Act an interim order could not be granted. Earlier, the Court of Appeal Judge N.K. Udalagama issued an interim order directing the SLBFE to accept and process the applications for employment in a writ of Certiorari and Mandamus application filed by the proprietor of the Foreign Employment Agency "Acura". The Court also issued an interim order directing the first respondent to include the petitioners name as licence holder in the monthly bulletins submitted to the Embassies. Gomin Dayasiri instructed by Sudath Perera Associates appeared for appellant. Romesh de Silva PC with Kuvera de Soyza instructed by G.G. Arulpragasam appeared for the petitioner. |
