Lanka-Uganda discussion on bilateral issues Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is in New York to address the UN 58th General Assembly Sessions, met with Ugandan second Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister James Vapakabulo, on Thursday and discussed bilateral issues. He explained to the Ugandan Deputy Prime Minister the importance of adopting common courses of action among countries who share similarities in many fields. The Ugandan Deputy Premier, endorsing Premier Wickremesinghe's view observed that countries with identical interests must get together to influence international progress while seeking the dawn of a better living standard for the people of their respective countries. The Ugandan Deputy Premier while referring to a Sri Lankan firm which has already opened garment factories in Uganda to provide employment to approximately 1000 Ugandan female employees, invited Sri Lanka to share with them the experiences in the fields of plantation and garment industries. They also agreed to organise an information survey tour in Uganda by a Sri Lankan delegation to initiate bilateral relationship. Prime Minister's Secretary Bradman Weerakoon, Foreign Secretary Bernard Goonetilleke, Sri Lankan Ambassador in USA Devinda Subasinghe, Prime Minister's Additional Secretary Saman Athaudahetti and the First Secretary to the UN Permanent Representative in New York Yasoja Gunasekera accompanied the Premier. |
