Seminar on US container security initiative The Institute of Chartered Ship brokers Sri Lanka branch (ICS-SL) with the Sri Lanka Shippers Council will hold a seminar on US Container Security Initiative and Effect on Sri Lanka on September 27 from 9 am to 12 noon at the Galadari Hotel. The seminar will be opened by Secretary to the Ministry of Ports Development and Shipping Ranjith Maligaspe and Director General of Customers Sarath Jayathilake. The topics to be discussed are 1. Issues facing by mainly by Apparel exporters, 2. Issues faced by consolidators, 3. Difficulties encountered by shipping lines, 4. Twenty Four hour rule, 5. Short-Shipments and amendments and the cost there on for Lines/Customers, 6. Containers getting held in US Ports and difficulties faced by SL Exporters, 7. Advantages of Sri Lanka being a signatory to the CSI, 8. Container Scanning prior to acceptance and its advantage, 9. Importance of Security aspects and Bio-Terrorism, 10. New proposed Air Manifest Regulation. The expert panel will comprise senior personnel from the Sri Lanka Custom, CASA, Sri Lanka Shippers' Councils James Dozier and ICS-SL. According to Maxwell de Silva Chairman, ICS SL, the seminar will focus on several contentious issues that have arises since the implementation of the CSI procedures. He said that the Colombo Port in the near future will be "CSI Operational" with stationing of US Customs Officials and Scanning devices in the port which the Government is expected to acquire soon. |
