Indishe participates in the Okinawa karate-do Kobudo world tournament

Sensei, Indishe Senanayake the Sri Lankan representative/ president and chief instructor of Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do Kyudokan Association recently participated at the 2003 Okinawa Karate-do Kobudo World Tournament, the seminars and demonstrations which were held parallel to the tournament and trained in the Kyudokan Headquarters in Japan.

Sensei, Indishe a very young and talented Karateka in Sri Lanka was the sole participant from Sri Lanka among more than two thousand participants from over thirty countries at this prestigious world tournament. After his ten years training in various Karate styles, Sensei Indishe introduced Shorin Ryu Kyudokan to Sri Lanka last year. Hanshi, Yuchoku Higa (1910-1994), who is well known in Okinawa as "The Strong Fist of Okinawa" founded this dynamic form of Karate, Shorin Ryu Kyudokan with the help of his brother Kyoshi, Jintatsu Higa (8th Dan).

Hanshi Yuchoku Higa (10th Dan) was a master who directly hails from the forefathers of Karate. The Kyudokan style today is spread all over the world built up of the deep principles from the Karate such as Myo Mamaru, Marumi Muchimi, Kokyu, Coordination of Go and Ju (Yin Yan). After the death of Hanshi Yuchoku Higa, today the president of the association is Hanshi, Minoru Higa (9th Dan) one of the most respected masters in Okinawa.

Sensei Indishe underwent a very hard and strenuous training in the "Subaya Dojo", Kyudokan Hombu (Head Quarters) under Grand Master Minoru Higa and Technical Director Koyshi Oscar Higa (8th Dan) for two weeks. Sensei Indishe also underwent a special Kobudo (Traditional Okinawan Weaponry) training in Gushikawa City under the well-known Kobudo Grand Master, Hanshi Kotaro Iha (9th Dan), founder of the Ryu Kyu Kobudo Ryu Kon Kai Association.

Sensei Indishe who is in the prestigious list of very few Sri Lankan Karate Instructors who has trained in Okinawa, the Mecca of Karate, participated in demonstrations, which were held parallel to the tournament and in seminars conducted by old Grand Masters, who were named as "the Living Cultural Treasures" by the Okinawa Government.

Sensei, Indishe attended the seminars of Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato (10th Dan-Shorinkan) and Hanshi Katsuya Miyahira (10th Dan-Shidokan) and received certificates.

Sensei Indishe has conducted many training camps for foreign students at the request of foreign Martial Art Instructors in his Hombu Dojo in Moratuwa and abroad.

Apart from the representation of Shorin Ryu Kyudokan, Sensei Indishe works as the Sri Lankan representative of Seiyo No Shorin Ryu Karate Kobudo Kai USA and International Tae Kwon Do and Budosports Federation Germany. He is also a member of International Alliance of Martial Arts Schools UK and World Black Belt Union Pakistan.
